The Book of Samuel: Religion, Politics, and the Longing for Order

The Book of Samuel tells many seminal stories from the political history of ancient Israel. In this Tikvah course, Dr. Micah Goodman walks through the book's dramatic narrative, including Samuel's childhood in Shiloh, his support of Saul as king, the conflict between Saul and David, and multiple aspects of David's reign. Throughout the course, Dr. Goodman pays particular attention to the intersection of politics and religion.

NOTE: Before each class, a list of optional readings from the Book of Samuel and related commentaries will be provided.
