Shabbat morning services at Tifereth Israel are joyful, moving and led by clergy and congregants. Throughout the service, the congregation joins together in singing traditional and modern liturgical melodies as well as niggunim (songs without words). TI is enriched by the varied backgrounds and repertoires of our service leaders, including some with a lifetime of experience and some who learned to lead well into adulthood. All genders participate equally in TI’s ritual life; indeed, TI was the first Washington-area Conservative congregation to embrace egalitarianism, in the early 1970s.
TI is delighted to welcome children in the main service at all times, as well as at activities and services specially planned for ages 18 months to 12 years (the Tot Shabbat Torah parade is a highlight).
Everyone is invited to connect with the community in a leisurely way at lunch— with conversation and singing—following Shabbat morning services. Special programs, ranging from TI members sharing expert perspectives on current events to Talmud classes in English, frequently follow lunch.
TI offers other opportunities to pray as a community on Friday nights, Saturday mornings, Sunday mornings and Jewish holidays. You are always welcome at TI’s services, whether you are a “regular” or just passing through, no matter your level of familiarity with Jewish prayer.
