Community

Tifereth Israel is a “come as you are” community, blessed with members who have an amazing range of life experiences, expertise and enthusiasms. We come together in groups that bond over common interests, like our monthly book group and direct service Social Action teams, or life stages, like our parents of small children and Better Together senior-youth conversation participants. We also come together as a whole---and are delighted to welcome visitors---for celebrations, Shabbat and holiday services, and special events.  We love to spend time together, especially over food!

TI’s character has been shaped by its response to a pivotal moment in history. In the late 1960s, TI was about to become yet another urban synagogue to move to the suburbs. That was when a group of young members, committed to staying in a racially integrated neighborhood, stepped into leadership of the congregation. A spirit of community engagement and commitment to social justice have guided us ever since.
