Employment Opportunities
Programming & Communications Specialist
Tifereth Israel Congregation (TI) is a vibrant, egalitarian Conservative synagogue in the Shepherd Park neighborhood of DC. We take pride in caring for one another, while also engaging in social justice initiatives in our neighborhood and beyond.
We are seeking a Program and Communications Specialist (PCS) to serve as a key driver of TI’s growth and engagement. The PCS will help lay leaders create and implement successful programs and events, as well as support projects initiated by the Rabbi and Director of Lifelong Learning. The PCS will publicize activities and promote our congregation—reaching both the congregation and the larger Jewish community – with the goal of attracting, engaging and retaining members. The right candidate is both a team player and a self-starter with excellent organizational and communications skills. We are looking for someone eager to engage with our energetic congregation, while bringing their own talents and creativity to the job.
Candidates who meet core requirements and are willing to develop skills in new areas are encouraged to apply.
Overview of Duties
- Support lay leaders and staff to produce successful programs and events, including TI’s annual End of Summer Celebration, Chanukah Extravaganza, Purim Carnival, and congregational retreat.
- Support the Annual Appeal, Mishloach Manot program and other development campaigns.
- Develop and implement a communications strategy, utilizing email, social media, website and print materials to:
- Promote activities both within the congregation and via external outlets.
- Maintain, strengthen and expand TI’s identity and presence.
- Help attract and engage new synagogue members and religious school families.
Requirements
Program
- Proven track record of designing, producing, and delivering successful programs in either a professional or volunteer leadership capacity.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage diverse stakeholders with professionalism, warmth, and a strong service orientation.
- Ability to support congregants to produce successful programs.
Communications
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated success designing and executing multi-platform social-media strategies for a faith–based, nonprofit, or community organization.
- Proven ability to create engaging copy and graphics that convey event information to diverse audiences of all ages.
- Hands-on experience managing CMS-based websites and email-marketing platforms, optimizing content for accessibility, SEO, and clear donation/event calls to action.
- Familiarity with building and tracking annual communications calendars.
GENERAL Attributes
- Thrives in highly collaborative environments while also able to assume independent responsibility for projects.
- Flexible, solutions-oriented mindset with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives concurrently and adapt to shifting needs.
This is an in-person, full-time position, with occasional evenings and weekend work. The annual salary is $75,000. TI offers generous benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement benefits; sick and vacation time; and time off for Jewish Holidays and most Federal holidays.
To apply, send a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to info@tifereth-israel.org. Two professional references will be required upon request. This position is open for immediate hire and applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
