TI has been committed to social action for more than 40 years. It's a natural outgrowth of TI's progressive concern for the community and world around us - one way we take part in Tikkun Olam.
In the late 1960's, Tifereth Israel was about to become yet another synagogue to move to the suburbs, when a group of young members, committed to staying in the District in a racially integrated neighborhood, took over the leadership of the congregation. That spirit has guided us every since.

At TI, Tikkun Olam means engaging with our communities - hands on! Join us for one event, or for a few hours a week.
Coming up next for families:SOME Casseroles. Opened as a small soup kitchen in 1970, with the help of volunteers SOME now provides a nourishing, hot breakfast and lunch every day of the year. TI participates in creating food for SOME to serve. This is a great activity for you and the kids, even the youngest in your family. Deadline for SOME casserole drop-off at TI. Contact: Stephanie or David Rubin for details and for other drop-off times | Coming up next for adults and teens: Shepherd School Tutoring. Since 2000, adults and teenagers from Tifereth Israel and our neighborhood have tutored students from our local public elementary school. Each tutor works with a student once a week to read, practice math skills, or review homework, making a real difference in academic performance and self-confidence. Contact: Dan Nathan
