TI takes pride in being a warm and welcoming place for children and is happy to have them in the Sanctuary during services.  We also invite them to join one of our Shabbat children's activities held upstairs in the classrooms and downstairs in the Library.

Shabbbat Children's Activities – Weekly Events

TI offers three different age-appropriate programs for children on Shabbat mornings, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Ages 18 months - 4 years:  Shultime - Available Every Week

Shabbat songs; services; circle time; play time inside or out (depending on the weather); books and stories; plus a snack.

Grades K - 2:   K'tongregation

Combines play with tefillah (prayer), songs, Shabbat stories, and snack.

Grades 3 - 6:  Junior Congregation

A youth service and discussion group held when Himmelfarb School classes are in session

Shabbat Children's Activities - Other Events, Other Ages

Teens past Bar and Bat Mitzvah age

Teens often participate as service leaders and Torah or Haftarah readers.  Younger children may lead individual prayers or songs.

Family Service

Offered frequently during the year students of K'tongregation and Junior Congregation lead the Family Service. Parents, siblings, friends, as well as other relatives are welcome as our students lead the Shabbat prayers, read Torah, dramatize the weekly Torah reading, and more!

Email Eitan@Tifereth-Israel.org - Eitan Gutin - Director of Lifelong Learning for more information on the activities described above.

Tot Shabbat

Brings together families with children 5 years and under with their parents many times per year in the Chapel on Shabbat mornings. A parent led activity, Tot Shabbat includes tefillah (prayer), songs, Shabbat stories, Torah parade and mini-kiddush.  To contact a participating parent, email TITotShabbat@Tifereth-Israel.org. Find out the date of the next Tot Shabbat.

Babies

When younger children or infants become restless or noisy, you can take them to our Bride’s Room (through the rear door of the Sanctuary and to your right).  You’ll find toys and books and be able to hear the service.  Please ensure that your child is properly supervised while in the building.

Guidelines for Parents

The following guidelines need to be followed so that we can protect the safety of each child and also respect the well-being of the building itself. These guidelines will allow all of us to share the joy of Shabbat.

Children are not to be alone –  they should either be with their parents or at one of the above programs or childcare locations.

Please clean up – all areas must be cleaned up and all games and toys returned to their proper locations.
