Shabbat Saturday, January 14th

Morning Speaker - Will give the Drash during Shabbat services

Mr. Ed Lazere,  Director of the DC Fiscal Policy Institute, will speak. The Institute seeks to inform public debates on budget and tax issues and to ensure that the needs of low income residents are considered.

Afternoon Panel Discussion  - Will commence after Shabbat luncheon

It is hoped that interactive discussion with the panel will lead to poverty-related action items for the congregation.

The panel represents a cross section of different efforts to address the issue of poverty and will consist of the following people:

Ms. Lyn Brantley, President and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank (Could be another person). The Capital Arera Food Bank is the largest nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington metropolitan area.

Rabbi Elizabeth Richman, the Program Director and Rabbi in Residence at Jews United for Justice. JUFJ has been at the fore front with programs to alleviate poverty in the DC area.

Dr. Dana Beyer, Executive Director, Gender Rights of Maryland. Dana has been an advocate for low income families at the Montgomery County and Maryland State levels.

Mr. Joseph Firschein, Deputy Associate Director, Federal Reserve Board of Directors. Joseph has been involved with programs that are aimed at aiding development in under served communities.
