Some rituals are a familiar part of Jewish culture: B'rit Milah, Bar and Bat Mitzvah, weddings and funerals. But Jewish religious practice is constantly growing and changing, and contemporary American society lends itself to a host of new ritual practices. Thinking about the invention of new rituals and the adaptation of old ones allows us to ask deeper questions about contemporary Jewish culture and in fact about the nature of ritual itself.
