Chai School, USY, NYC Trip
On April 24-26 our Chai School and USY members visited New York for the weekend. While there we davenned at B’Nai Jeshurun on Friday evening and with Kehillat Hadar on Shabbat morning. Both of these congregations were recently listed in the April Newsweek article entitled, America’s 25 Most Vibrant Congregations. They are certainly vibrant and lively and our students enjoy davenning there with them every year. On Saturday evening we will walk to the Times Square area where we have tickets to see “In the Heights”, the 2008 Tony Award winner for best musical. Sunday morning we will explore Jewish New York and are at this time, planning to take a boat tour during which we will see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Museum of Jewish Heritage and other sites. The students have also requested time to explore midtown NY on Sunday so we will try to squeeze that in as well.
Politics & Prose Bookfair
As I hope you read in last month’s bulletin thanks to the support and help of our congregants the Department of Lifelong Learning made $523.00 at our annual fundraiser. Although this does not cost us anything to run, we could not do this without the volunteer help of many of you. Special thanks to the following people who gave up two hours of time on a Sunday to help our department: Sarah Osborne, Joel Cohen, Margie Odle, Gene Herman, Renee and Kaziah Brachfeld, Rona and Lena Siskind, Hedy Howard, Deena Dugan, Hedy Ohringer and Paula Flicker. We couldn’t have done it without their help and the help of all of your shoppers! We also thank our authors, Rhoda Trooboff and Carolivia Herron for the ‘story hours’ they offered.

The Rabbi will be talking during our May SAGEING meeting, which is always open to any adult who is free during the day. Join us for lunch and discussion from 12:30-2:30 on May 20. The Rabbi will be speaking from 1-2 pm with time for questions from 2-2:30. Hope to see you there!
May 3 Burnt Bread and Chutney Book Discussion.
At 10:30 AM we will be discussing this interesting book by Carmit Delman. The author shares her experiences of living life as the child of a Bene Israel mom and a Jewish American Dad. The family moves from America to Israel and this is not an easy place to establish her identity. There are many interesting ideas brought up in this book about our view of others, Israeli society and our own American Jewish identity. Join us for what promises to be a very interesting discussion!
