Who We Are

We are TI congregants who want to expand our knowledge beyond weekly Torah reading; beyond our personal visits to the land of Israel; and, beyond our political and monetary contributions to the State of Israel.

What We Have Done

Dovrei Ivrit Table:  "Speaking Hebrew" at our Dovrei Ivrit Table is now a monthly part of the Shabbat Kiddush. It provides a vehicle for congregants who wish to practice conversational Hebrew. The participants talk about what people talk about. Gossip, chew the fat, report the news, whatever, in a range of speaking abilities. We usually have a “facilitator” to assist at the Table.

Cafe Israel:   It you like movies and middle-eastern food, then Café Israel is the place for you. We have shown movies depicting mosad activities (better than “Munich”), Israel's War for Independence (with two veterans of the conflict participating), religious life, and the lives of Druze in the Golan Heights.

Political Action:   We participate in and encourage others to take part in political action supporting Israel sponsored by the Jewish Federation, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and other local synagogues and organizations. As part of this effort we joined many other D.C., Maryland and Virginia Synagogues in supporting informational and public relations events and activities. Our members consist of individuals who cover the spectrum from Peace Now to AIPAC supporters.

Social Action:   The committee assisted in a project to send deaf Israeli children on an educational trip to Eastern Europe.

TI Congregational Trip to Israel 2007:   A group of over thirty TI'ers went forth to Israel in the summer of 2007 - a great time was had by all!
